It was anticipated that this would be a difficult match. Rovers were also unbeaten in the league and the conditions could have made the game a lottery. City kicked off the game with the assistance of the wind, which was blowing diagonally down the pitch. Rover’s keeper was called into action first and made some solid saves, getting his body behind the ball from shots from Corey, Calum and George. Rovers were finding it difficult to get out of their own half and City were piling on the pressure. Having made one particular good save to turn a shot around the post, it was a mistake that gave City the lead. Elliott picked the ball up around 25 yards from goal and his shot took the keeper by surprise and he allowed it to slip through his hands.
City continued to push forward and on the rare occasion they did get the ball forward, the pacy defence of Ollie, Elliott, Josh and Sam Ge were able to easily clear any pressure.
City had an excellent chance to increase the lead some good football down the right hand side from Ollie and Calum, created a golden opportunity for Harvey, who from 6 yards hit straight at the keeper.
It remained one nil at half time and the crowd on the side were worried that Rovers would benefit from the wind. How wrong they were. City immediately made it two nil from the kick off. The ball was worked down the left hand side and after the ball bounced around in the box, George was there to knock it in. This clearly rocked Rovers and they never really recovered. City were again camped in the Rovers half. Frank was causing the defence problems with his direct running. Further chances fell to Frank, Harvey, Sam Ge and Gregor, before a sweet move down the right made the score safe. Frank picked the ball up and following a slick turn, he laid the ball off to Calum. His left footed cross was met by Sam Gl, who headed in a very well worked goal.
The defence and midfield were winning everything. Jordan had played some neat football down the left to compliment the hard work of Sam Gl and Corey.
The fourth goal was a cracking left foot shot from outside the box by Corey, which gave the keeper no chance.
The fifth and six quickly followed. A smart run down the left by Gregor created space in the box allowing him to cut inside and slip the ball past the keeper.
Harvey made it six with a goal from within the six-yard box, which was well deserved for his unselfish running.
Alex had a quiet game in goal, but when he was called upon to save from a free kick he smartly blocked the shot with his knees. His kicking in a very strong wind was excellent.
Man of the match – Sam Glasson for a Captains performance capped with a good-headed goal.
